Following details mentioned below provides users more information on how to increase the performance of your system operating on Windows Vista:

  • Turn off auto-disk defragmentation
  • Disable Windows Search
  • Disable auto-launch

Turn off auto-disk defragmentation

The Windows Vista Operating System has a default automatic disk defragmenting feature. Although disk defragmenting speeds up your system, automatic defragmenting of the hard disk will only slow down the performance of the system. All Windows Vista users are therefore advised to turn off the automatic disk defragmenting tool and manually defragment the hard disk of the system regularly to optimize performance and speed up the system. The feature can be turned off by uncheck run on schedule in the tools tab of C drive.

Disable Windows Search

Windows Vista search indexing is a feature that allows users to locate any file present on the hard disk of the system quickly. Although it is a useful feature, it consumes lot of system resources. For normal use of a computer operating on Windows Vis this service is not necessary as it constantly consumes system resources by indexing all files and changes. Turning off the Windows Search Indexing feature by the “Index this drive for faster searching” in the general tab of the C drive will help to greatly speed up the system.

Disable auto launch

Windows Vista starts up lot of services on system startup. Starting up all unwanted features and services will consume lot of system resources and cause system slow down. To boost the speed and performance of your system operating on Windows Vista it is advised that users disable auto-start of the unnecessary services. This can be done with the help of System Configuration option in the Control Panel.
